U12s Teambuilding Day 2011

U12s Teambuilding Day 2011

Saturday, 18 June, 2011

An early start for the Ballyclare Colts U12s at 9am on Saturday 18 June 2011. This was in aid of a team building day for the boys to round off their successful season of 2010/2011.

The team travelled to Belfast Activity Centre at Barnett Demesne, Malone Road for a fun day out.

The day began by meeting the tutors (Scotty and Coleen) for various instructions at 09.30am. Then out into the park to play some trust games for half an hour. The next part of the morning session entailed vertical challenges (and that has nothing to do with little Jamie McAlees by the way)….

Indeed, it was very challenging for the boys to climb a 25ft wall then abseil down again. Everyone had a try before the races began. Two teams of seven a side competed very seriously and the team that won was Terry’s Big Bawldy Heed (aptly named by the shy retiring Matty Beckett – not! Don’t know where he gets this from, do you Barry)?

1pm and the packed lunches came out. An array of crisps, sandwiches, buns, salads and meringues (you know who you are Sam) appeared at the picnic table and were eagerly gobbled up.

1.30pm and the boys then had to get kitted up for the caving session. Boiler suits, knee pads, steel toe capped wellies and miners hats were the order of the day. The team looked… ahem… very well and certainly up for the challenges ahead. Coaches were banned from attending this event. They didn’t tell us why but we guessed it was in case we got stuck in one of the caverns…

So, some two and a half hours later the boys reappeared looking very excited and describing in detail all they’d been through in the afternoon and how much they had enjoyed the caving.

After thanking their tutors it was off to McDonalds for more food. My goodness what a feed these boys put away. Big macs, chips, muffins, ice cream, milk shakes and nuggets were some of the food they ate.

So all in all a very positive day was had by all and hopefully we can repeat the experience and do alternative activities next time. Thanks to Scotty and Coleen for providing a great day for the Ballyclare Colts.
